Available Live/Work Artist Studios
All of the lofts in Lowertown Lofts Artist Cooperative are live/work studios. Typically, one or two become available each year. Currently there are two studios available.
When the building was converted from a warehouse more than 40 years ago, the studios started out as basic, rectangular studios. Since then, each resident has modified their space to fit their artistic needs. As a result, every loft is unique. Below are examples of how the studios have evolved over the years.
Although none of the photos above accurately represent either of the two available studios, they do convey the character of our lofts. Most are approximately 900 square feet, and studios on the top floor also have livable lofts. Studios on the lower two floors may have a loft to be used only for storage due to a lower ceiling height.
How to be considered for membership in the co-op
As a cooperative, we have a defined process for incoming members. When a loft becomes available, we contact individuals on our waiting list, starting at the top of the list. Although there are many people on our waiting list, most are typically unable to proceed due to constraints such as a lease or other mitigating circumstances. That means someone near the bottom of the list could quickly rise up and become a new member of the cooperative.
When an individual on the waiting list has toured the available studio and expressed an interest in joining the cooperative, the next step is an interview with the Membership Committee and then, if approved, with the LLAC Board of Directors. We choose incoming members carefully and thoroughly. We look for individuals who will be responsible, active, creative members of the community.
